Hope everyone had a great holiday and is surviving the winter. We had a rough couple weeks of sickness, but we are back up and running. The entire household fell apart right after the holidays. Hudson developed both the flu and bronchitis and was out of commission for a week. Santa even delivered presents a day later because he felt so bad. Then Adley got a 48-hour bug with a fever, which she graciously passed along to me and then Chris. When we thought everyone had recovered, Adley got a SECOND fever/cold right after the new year. Geez.
But the kids have continued to enjoy all
their new toys and are even playing more like buddies and pals. The
sibling rivalries and tantrums have been at a minimum lately, and Hudson has
exponentially increased his patience with his little sis. He will help
open markers for Adley, take off her boots/coat when we get home and even give
up his favorite cartoon at times to make her happy. Not sure if this is a
sign of kids growing up or if it is a small gift from God after surviving all
the sickness lately. But I'll take the calmness while it lasts!
New sleeping bags
from Santa and they have been a BIG hit at our house!
Adley loved all
her Christmas gifts, but her most prized possessions are anything pertaining to
Elsa. She got an Elsa/Anna jewelry box as well as a karaoke Frozen purse
with a microphone for Christmas. Without prompting, Adley will sit with
this purse and practice all the Frozen songs. It is hilarious.
Cute video of her singing...it's in our daily routine now...
Adley also got her big girl room and has
been so excited to read books in her "big-girl bed;" aka the queen
size bed that has been in our storage. And she loveessss to read!
She has about 6 books memorized to where she can recite them verbatim.
It's eerie to watch because I know she can't read yet; it's just repetition and
memorization. Hudson, however, thinks she can actually read and once
said, "Why can't I read yet mama? That's not fair!" That
comment made us chuckle. And to top off the cuteness, Adley still wants
to us to sing Jingle Bells every night before she falls
asleep.
Below is a video
of the kids after I moved the crib out of Adley's room. Chris was
travelling that week so I had to empty, clean out and be ready to set up the
bed as soon as he got back into town. The kids were stoked about the
bedroom transformation. Not sure why, but it definitely upped my
cool-factor as a mama.
Hudson is almost
done with basketball and he has done great! He has developed this
competitive spirit that motivates him to play hard and be a team player.
He will pass the ball, play defense and even practice at home (without us
motivating him to do so). His best bud Caleb is on the team as
well. When they are not out on the court, it's cute to watch them hug,
poke each other, laugh together and even pick a booger occasionally.
We have Chris'
birthday to celebrate next, a couple play dates lined up, and a family trip to
either the Columbus Zoo or Indianapolis Children's Museum (depending on
weather). And we can't forget the big Super Bowl game (Go Patriots!)
coming up. Hudson talks about it daily; it's an unhealthy obsession with
how much knowledge this kid knows about his daddy's favorite football
team. And unlike the rest of America, we are praying for another Tom
Brady win!
