Sports, Sports and Weekend Travels!

Winter has been keeping us busy with indoor sports and any and all activities that can expend the energy of little people.  Hudson (and his buddy Caleb) completed basketball season.  They did much better than I originally anticipated.  By the end of the season, Hudson could dribble and pass like a big kid.  He continues to practice basketball and football during any free moment at home, and has only broken one picture frame...so far.

And as soon as one sport ends, I sign him up for another one.  Indoor soccer this time.  The boys had their first game and Hudson scored two goals!

I will briefly mention Super Bowl, as it was a sad sad day for both my boys.  Adley made it to half time and Hudson stayed up for the entire game.  I think Chris may have shed a tear, but I cannot confirm that.  The week leading up to the game, I asked Hudson if he wanted to wear his jersey to school to support Tom Brady.  He politely declined.

The back story: Hudson has been banned (per his teacher) of wearing football jerseys to school.  He will tackle, strong-arm and all but demolish his classmates as he "plays football."  Mrs. Ophelia has reassured me that his actions are not spiteful; he just does not know his own strength and he lovessssss football.  She was going to give Hudson a pass this time, since Tom Brady was in the Super Bowl again.  But this was Hud's response when I confronted him:

"Mama, I just can't do it.  I can't NOT be a football player when I'm wearing my jersey. I just love Tom Brady too much."

We chuckled.  And his love for his quarterback is still slightly odd, but at least he can tell his future therapist that his father brainwashed him.  But I was so proud of his honesty and his ability to acknowledge his shortcomings.

Last weekend, we had a mini getaway in downtown Cincinnati, which the kids loved.  We stayed "way up in the sky," according to Hudson and we were in the "big city."

Adley loves to play the matching game, currently the Minion edition.  Her technique to winning the game is amazing, and it was completely unprovoked by Chris or myself.  She will first flip all the cards face up, match them accordingly side-by-side, then flip them back face down.  She will tell you it's time to play, then proceed to flip the cards and "match" them all.  Ha!  I thought that was the most clever move yet.

That evening we went to Newport on the Levee and had dinner and played video games.  Even Adley had fun with all the bright lights, loud games and chaos.

The next morning, everyone woke up early.  I cannot mentally handle my children when they are confined to small spaces with loads of energy.  I get anxiety they are going to break something or wake up other guests.  Chris can sleep through a tornado.  So 6am came and I took Hudson to the gym at the hotel.  He walked on the treadmill, learned how to do crunches on the medicine ball and didn't injure himself or the equipment, thus is was a successful morning.

Then we headed to the Newport Aquarium.  Fun for all!

There was a new stingray exhibit where you can crawl through a tunnel under the water, then pop up in the middle of the water.  Clearly Adley thought that was amazing....

We had TWO days of warm weather last week!!  It was glorious.  All the family met up after work at the park.  Adley is now big enough to climb up all the stairs and obstacles.  She is no longer my baby that needs a helping hand.  She is Miss Independent and she knows it.  She has also been doing amazing with her big girl bed and still hasn't learned that she can actually get out of her bed.  She also moved up classes at school and has already been potty-trained by Ms. Carly.  Granted, she chooses to be potty-trained from 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday only, but that's a start.  When I ask her to sit on the potty at home, her response is "no thank you."  At least she is polite about ignoring my requests, right?!

Until next time!

Holidays, Big Girl Room and Basketball

Hope everyone had a great holiday and is surviving the winter.  We had a rough couple weeks of sickness, but we are back up and running.  The entire household fell apart right after the holidays.  Hudson developed both the flu and bronchitis and was out of commission for a week.  Santa even delivered presents a day later because he felt so bad.  Then Adley got a 48-hour bug with a fever, which she graciously passed along to me and then Chris.  When we thought everyone had recovered, Adley got a SECOND fever/cold right after the new year.  Geez.

But the kids have continued to enjoy all their new toys and are even playing more like buddies and pals.  The sibling rivalries and tantrums have been at a minimum lately, and Hudson has exponentially increased his patience with his little sis.  He will help open markers for Adley, take off her boots/coat when we get home and even give up his favorite cartoon at times to make her happy.  Not sure if this is a sign of kids growing up or if it is a small gift from God after surviving all the sickness lately.  But I'll take the calmness while it lasts!

New sleeping bags from Santa and they have been a BIG hit at our house!

Adley loved all her Christmas gifts, but her most prized possessions are anything pertaining to Elsa.  She got an Elsa/Anna jewelry box as well as a karaoke Frozen purse with a microphone for Christmas.  Without prompting, Adley will sit with this purse and practice all the Frozen songs.  It is hilarious.

Cute video of her singing...it's in our daily routine now...

Adley also got her big girl room and has been so excited to read books in her "big-girl bed;" aka the queen size bed that has been in our storage.  And she loveessss to read!  She has about 6 books memorized to where she can recite them verbatim.  It's eerie to watch because I know she can't read yet; it's just repetition and memorization.  Hudson, however, thinks she can actually read and once said, "Why can't I read yet mama? That's not fair!"  That comment made us chuckle.  And to top off the cuteness, Adley still wants to us to sing Jingle Bells every night before she falls asleep.

Below is a video of the kids after I moved the crib out of Adley's room.  Chris was travelling that week so I had to empty, clean out and be ready to set up the bed as soon as he got back into town.  The kids were stoked about the bedroom transformation.  Not sure why, but it definitely upped my cool-factor as a mama.

Hudson is almost done with basketball and he has done great!  He has developed this competitive spirit that motivates him to play hard and be a team player.  He will pass the ball, play defense and even practice at home (without us motivating him to do so).  His best bud Caleb is on the team as well.  When they are not out on the court, it's cute to watch them hug, poke each other, laugh together and even pick a booger occasionally.

We have Chris' birthday to celebrate next, a couple play dates lined up, and a family trip to either the Columbus Zoo or Indianapolis Children's Museum (depending on weather).  And we can't forget the big Super Bowl game (Go Patriots!) coming up.  Hudson talks about it daily; it's an unhealthy obsession with how much knowledge this kid knows about his daddy's favorite football team.  And unlike the rest of America, we are praying for another Tom Brady win!

Holiday Fun and Snow!

Angela here!  I know I say it in almost in every post, but WOW have we been busy this past month.  Christmas activities have taken over our house, our schedule and our weekends.  But the kids adore it.  Damien, The Elf on the Shelf, returned the day after Thanksgiving and the kids are now obsessed.  They run downstairs every morning searching for where he landed.  Adley screams out his name while Hudson frantically opens every door trying to find the little guy.  Chris gets creative and puts the elf in funny spots; I just try to remember to move him (one time I forgot and convinced Hud that the elf just realllllly liked sitting in the tree.  And every few days, they will get a small gift from Damien.  The matching pjs have been the favorite so far.

One day Hudson was scrolling though my Instagram account and stumbled across a picture of himself when he was two and had touched Damien the Elf.  Now anyone who has bought into this marketing scam knows that if a kid touches their elf, he loses his powers.  And according to the movie, the elf has to go to the elf hospital and get an IV of peppermint medicine before he feels better.  Poor Hudson was beside himself when he found out he hurt his elf...just distraught...as deeply disappointed as a 4 year old could be.  We talked about it for about 20 minutes before I could convince him he was just little and didn't know any better at the time.

"I shouldn't have done it mama.  Is Damien still upset with me?  Does daddy know what I did?  Please don't let daddy touch Damien!"

Chris always pretends he is about to touch the elf and the kids flip out and go ballistic.  Adley cries and Hudson tries to tackle Chris before he touches him.  For some reason, Chris finds humor in torturing these poor kids.  But after the picture incident, he's had to since stop.  Even the next day, Hudson came home after school and apologized again to Damien and us.  It was the sweetest thing ever.  Below is the evidence.  Chris and I can't stop laughing about the whole situation...

Now going to give a quick rundown of everything else we've been doing....

WinterFest - Kings Island

Woodland Lights - Washingtown Township

Brunch with Santa - Hilton Garden Inn
Adley was so excited to get dressed up and wear matching outfits with cousin Claire.  But as soon as she saw the big guy in red, she screamed so loud that windows should have shattered.

The four best cousins in the world!  They literally see each almost other everyday (between school, sports and weekends) and they still are always requesting to have play dates and sleepovers.  Love them so much!

First Snowfall
Adley continues to be scared of everything.  The latest being white socks.  Like, really?!?  Pink socks are OK, but white socks send her into hysteria.  Snow did the same thing.

Hudson loved the snow.  It was strange because he kept eating it.  His response: "Mom! You gotta try this stuff!  It tastes just like ice cream!"  Instead of fighting the weird comment of plain snow having a flavor, we instead brought some inside, poured it in cups and then covered it with fun dip, aka we made snow cones!  That scared Adley as well.

Kids-R-Kids Holiday Program
We practiced for two weeks singing Must Be Santa and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.  Hudson kept saying he was scared people would laugh at him, but he overcame his fears and rocked out on stage with his best buds Sammy and Caleb.  Cousins Anderson and Claire also gave solid performances so it was a fun evening.  Their love for the holidays make this time of year so special for me.

Only 9 more days till Santa comes!  We are headed to Kentucky to see the Wilson's and extended family.  Then we'll be back to celebrate with the Ohio crew.  Hope everyone is having a fabulous holiday!
